Safeguard Law, PLLC is seeking a Law Clerk to help with a growing virtual law firm. A computer-savvy student with an interest in tax law is a must. Must be at least a 2L taking federal income tax (prior experience as a tax preparer can substitute for this). 3Ls welcome to apply, though this will not be a clerk-to-attorney hire at this time. This position is completely virtual. Potential to extend into the school year depending on staffing needs.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Helps attorney(s) prepare for trials, interviews, audits, administrative proceedings, negotiations, and client meetings.

2. Supports lawyers throughout the entire tax, business law, or corporate transaction process.

3. Assists with the preparation and filing of tax returns, notice responses, and other documents.

4. Conducts legal research and pulls cases.

5. Proofreads and cite-checks briefs and other materials.

6. Organizes and maintains physical and digital case files.

7. Uses legal research and e-discovery software.

8. Handles multiple matters simultaneously.

9. Maintains client confidentiality.

10. Follows firm guidelines, policies, and procedures.

Education and Experience

1. Bachelor's degree required.

2. Current or graduating law school student (a graduating 3L seeking a part time position is welcome to apply as well).

3. Completion of, or current enrollment in, an Income Tax law class strongly preferred. 

4. Completion of, or current enrollment in, tax law classes beyond Income Tax are a plus.

5. Knowledge of google suite (Gmail, etc.) is a plus, but not required.

Transcripts (unofficial) are required. Cover letters or writing samples are not required. However, if a writing sample is submitted, please limit it to three pages.
